The rivers of Africa are her lifeblood.
The world-famous Victoria Falls mark the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, where the mighty Zambezi River gathers its strength and tumbles off a fractured basalt plateau into a series of dramatic gorges 100 metres below. With an impressive width of 1,708 meters, the Victoria Falls creates the single largest continuous falling curtain of water in the world.
The Victoria Falls are also officially known as Mosi-oa-Tunya or “The Smoke that Thunders” in the Lozi language of the area – a name that perfectly captures the almost mystical atmosphere of this World Heritage Site. Victoria Falls is a place of myth, magic, and romance.

I made this series in July 2022 when I went back to Zimbabwe after more than 20 years.

De rivieren van Afrika zijn haar levensaderen.
De wereldberoemde Victoria Falls markeren de grens tussen Zambia en Zimbabwe, waar de machtige Zambezi-rivier zijn kracht verzamelt en van een gebroken basaltplateau in een reeks dramatische kloven 100 meter lager valt. Met een indrukwekkende breedte van 1.708 meter creëren de Victoria Falls het grootste continu vallende watergordijn ter wereld.
De Victoria Falls staan ook bekend als Mosi-oa-Tunya of "The Smoke that Thunders" in de Lozi-taal van het gebied. Een naam die perfect de bijna mystieke sfeer van dit werelderfgoed weergeeft. Victoria Falls is een plaats van mythe, magie en romantiek.
